The Technology industry in Cornwall is growing at nearly twice the rate of the rest of the UK. The sector is one of the fastest growing in Britain, contributing £170 billion to the UK’s economy.
The sector has contributed £39 million to the Cornish economy and created an increasing volume of start-up businesses, with a growth rate of 31% in the past five years, compared with a 17% growth rate nationwide.
There are more than 680 tech companies in Cornwall supporting more than 1,380 highly paid jobs and all are growing and recruiting at an extraordinary rate. They vary from sole traders employing one person to firms providing up to 100 jobs.
Cornwall’s tech cluster is growing with particular focus on Redruth and Truro, but also having a ripple effect to other locations in Cornwall with talent & skills also growing in numbers, supported by educational establishments such as Falmouth University.
Continued investment in sector projects such as Aerospace Cornwall & Agritech Cornwall are positive developments presenting opportunity, amongst other initiatives in the region.
